John Deere 105.16 – ECU: Intake Manifold Air Temperature Moderately High
Issue description
Triggers when the controller detects that the mixed air temperature of the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system or the intake manifold has exceeded normal operating specifications (typically above 88°C / 190°F). When this code is active, the system will usually initiate an engine power derate to protect the engine from overheating damage.

Check the cause
Visual Inspection: Check the radiator, charge air cooler, and front grilles for debris, dust, or crop material blockages.
Coolant Level Check: Verify the engine coolant level is at the 'MAX' line.
Air-Lock Check: Check for a low coolant pump air-lock, which causes low coolant flow through the Low-Temperature Cooling (LTC) circuit to the charge air cooler.
Flow Testing: If the system is bled and full, flow-test the low-temperature circuit using a flow tester (e.g., John Deere tool KJD10431).
Sensor Testing: Test the Intake Manifold Air Temperature Sensor's voltage and resistance to ensure it is reading accurately and not shorted.
Repair steps
Clean the Cooling System
Thoroughly blow out or wash the radiator and charge air cooler to remove any debris restricting airflow.
Bleed the Low-Temperature Cooling (LTC) Circuit
Fill the coolant reservoir to the 'MAX' fill line. Open the cooling system bleed valve. Run the engine without a load for 5 minutes at 1700 RPM. Shut the engine off and wait 5 to 10 minutes before closing the drain/bleed valve. Check the coolant level. If it has dropped below the 'MAX' line, repeat this bleeding procedure until the coolant level stabilizes at the 'MAX' line.
Clear Codes and Test
Cycle the key switch and operate the machine under load to see if the code returns.
Replace the Sensor
If the cooling system is clean, fully bled, and flowing properly but the code persists (or if the sensor fails a multimeter test), replace the Intake Manifold Mixed Air Temperature Sensor.
