107.16

John Deere 107.16 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): The Air Filter Sensor Has Detected High Pressure Difference, Suggests a Blocked Air Filter

Issue description

The air filter restriction sensor has detected a moderately high pressure differential (vacuum) in the engine air intake system, indicating that the engine is struggling to pull in enough air. When this code is active, the engine controller will typically limit engine power (derate) to protect the engine from damage.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the primary and secondary air filters for heavy dirt, dust, or debris buildup

  2. Ensure the precleaner is functioning properly and that the aspirator tube is not clogged

  3. Inspect the Air Filter Restriction Sensor and its wiring harness for physical damage, corrosion, or loose connections

  4. Check with a dealer to see if an ECU software update (e.g., SW62305K) is required (known issue on certain models like 7R Tier 4 Series when EGR valve is closed)

Repair steps

  1. Service the Air Filter Assembly

Open the air cleaner housing and remove the primary air filter.

  2. Replace the Filters

Install a new primary air filter. It is highly recommended to replace the secondary filter as well. Do NOT attempt to blow out the dirty filter with compressed air, as this can damage the filter media.

  3. Clear the Code

Close the housing securely. Cycle the tractor's key switch or power down the CommandCenter™ page and restart the engine.

  4. Test Operation

Run the machine under load. If the code returns immediately with brand-new filters, the Air Filter Restriction Sensor is likely faulty and must be replaced, or the ECU requires a software update.
