John Deere 1075.12 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Issue With The Electric Low Pressure Fuel Pump

Triggered when the control unit commands the electric low-pressure fuel pump (lift pump) to turn ON, but detects a bad status in return. The system expects the status input to be grounded when the pump is active. If the status input is not grounded—often due to an open circuit in the status wire between the control unit and the transfer pump, or an internal pump failure—the code is generated.

   Inspect the wiring harness between the ECU and the electric lift pump for an open circuit or short in the status wire, and ensure the ground connection is secure (Note: interference through controller ground is a known issue on some models like the 9230).

   Examine the fuel lines for blockages, kinks, or leaks that could impede fuel flow and cause the pump to overwork or fail.

   Check the low-pressure fuel pump for signs of heavy dirt, debris, or obvious mechanical failure.

   Use a diagnostic tool to manually actuate the fuel pump and monitor the electrical parameters and fuel pressure output.

   Relieve Pressure & Disconnect Power

   Turn off the machine, disconnect the battery ground cable, and relieve any residual pressure in the low-pressure fuel lines.

   Repair Wiring

   If the diagnostic checks revealed an open circuit or damaged status wire between the ECU and the pump, repair the harness or replace the damaged connector.

   Replace the Fuel Pump

   If the wiring is intact but the pump fails to operate or ground the status signal, the pump is internally defective. Disconnect the electrical connector and fuel lines from the lift pump. Unbolt the pump from its mounting bracket (often located near the primary fuel filter/water separator) and install the new pump.

   Change Fuel Filters

   Change the primary and secondary fuel filters whenever replacing the lift pump or addressing fuel pressure codes.

   Prime the System

   Turn the key to the ON position to allow the new electric lift pump to prime the fuel system. Check for any fuel leaks at the fittings.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect diagnostic equipment, reset the ECU to clear the 001075.12 error code, and run the engine to verify that the code does not return and the pump operates correctly.
