108.02

John Deere 108.02 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): The Signal From The Internal Barometric Sensor Is Faulty

Issue description

The barometric pressure sensor measures atmospheric pressure, which the engine management system uses to calculate the correct air-to-fuel ratio and manage turbocharger performance. The .02 extension specifically indicates that the data from the sensor is erratic, intermittent, or incorrect.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the engine air filter for severe restriction, which can cause manifold and exhaust pressure calculation anomalies that the ECU misinterprets as an invalid barometric reading.

  2. Check with a John Deere dealer for ECU software updates, as past updates have included patches to prevent nuisance 108.02 codes.

  3. Clear the code and retest the machine to rule out a temporary glitch or nuisance code.

Repair steps

  1. Replace the Engine Air Filter

If the filter is dirty or restricted, replace it with a new OEM filter, clear the code, and test the machine.

  2. Replace the ECU

If the code persists, the internal barometric pressure sensor has permanently failed. Because the sensor cannot be serviced separately from the circuit board, the entire Engine Control Unit (ECU) must be replaced.

  3. Reprogram the ECU

Install the new ECU and have a certified John Deere dealer flash the controller with the correct payload/software for your specific machine's serial number and engine configuration.
