1176.12

John Deere 1176.12 – ECU: Intake Air Pressure Error

Issue description

Triggered when the controller detects a problem with measuring the intake air pressure (also known as manifold absolute pressure or MAP). Faulty readings can result from a malfunctioning sensor, wiring issues, or internal controller problems. When this code is active, the controller may adjust engine parameters or limit performance (derate) to compensate for the incorrect intake air pressure readings, which can affect turbocharger efficiency and overall engine performance.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the intake air pressure sensor for physical signs of damage or malfunction. Ensure the connector is securely seated.

  2. Examine the wiring harness and connectors related to the intake air pressure sensor. Look for signs of damage, chafing, corrosion, or loose pins.

  3. Test the signal voltage from the pressure sensor using a diagnostic tool or multimeter. Compare the live readings to the expected values in the OEM service manual to verify its accuracy.

  4. Check the ECU for internal faults. If the sensor tests fine and the wiring is in good condition, the issue may be internal to the ECU.

Repair steps

  1. Address Wiring Issues

If any corrosion or damage was found during the diagnostic checks, repair the wiring harness or replace the damaged connector pigtail.

  2. Replace Faulty Sensor

If the pressure sensor fails the signal test or is physically damaged, remove the old sensor from the intake manifold and install a new OEM replacement.

  3. Reset the ECU

After making the necessary repairs, use a diagnostic tool to reset the ECU and clear the 001176.12 error code.

  4. Verify Operation

Run the engine and perform operational tests to ensure the pressure sensor is reading accurately and that the fault code does not return.
