Check the cause

  2. Inspect the cooling system (radiator and charge air cooler) for debris, dirt, or blockages restricting airflow

  3. Inspect the air intake system for a severely restricted or plugged engine air filter

  4. Visually inspect the turbocharger actuator linkage for breakage or a binding Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT) mechanism

Repair steps

  1. Scan and Clear

    Connect a diagnostic scan tool (like John Deere Service ADVISOR) and read all active/stored DTCs. Address any primary sensor faults first.

  2. Clean Coolers

    Blow out the radiator, charge air cooler, and rotary screen drive (if applicable) with compressed air to ensure maximum cooling efficiency.

  3. Service Air/Fuel Filters

    Replace the primary and secondary engine air filters if they are restricted. Replace fuel filters if fuel delivery issues are suspected.

  4. Test Turbo Actuator

    Command the turbocharger actuator via the diagnostic tool to ensure it sweeps its full range of motion without binding.

  5. Repair/Replace Turbo Components

    If the actuator linkage is broken, or if the turbocharger vanes are seized/binding internally, remove the heat shielding to access the turbo assembly. Replace the turbocharger actuator or the complete turbocharger assembly as necessary.

  6. Verify Repair

    Clear the ECU codes and test-run the machine under a heavy working load to verify that the calculated turbine inlet temperature remains within normal operating specifications and the code does not return.
