   Cycle the tractor key switch to reboot the system and clear temporary software launch faults

   Verify the software versions of both the XMC and XSC control software to check for a version mismatch

   Inspect the Vehicle CAN-BUS lines for high error rates or missing messages that can interrupt the XMC/XSC handshake

   Check the physical hardware components, wiring harnesses, and electrical connections leading to the Steering System Control Unit for signs of damage, corrosion, or shorts to ground.

   Update Software

   Connect the John Deere diagnostic tool (Service ADVISOR) and update/reprogram the Steering System Control Unit (XMC and XSC) to the latest software version.

   Calibrate

   After reprogramming, execute all necessary steering configurations and calibrations as prompted by the software.

   Clear Codes

   Delete the diagnostic trouble codes and restart the tractor to verify if the code returns.

   Replace Module

   If the control unit cannot be reprogrammed, or if the internal fault persists after a successful software update and reboot, the Steering System Control Unit has suffered a hard internal failure and must be replaced.
