John Deere 126.16 – CCU, PTP, PTQ, PTI: Transmission Oil Filter Restricted

The pressure switch on the transmission oil filter remains closed for more than three seconds while the transmission oil temperature is above 28°C (82°F) and the engine speed exceeds 700 rpm, indicating a clogged filter.

   Warm the transmission oil to normal operating temperature (above 28°C/82°F) and restart the tractor to see if the code clears, as cold, viscous oil can trigger a false restriction warning.

   Verify the transmission/hydraulic oil level is within the normal operating range.

   Check the transmission oil filter pressure switch and its wiring harness for an open circuit or a short to the positive battery terminal, which can falsely trigger the bypass switch reading.

   Inspect the oil filter housing and associated lines for any signs of external damage or blockages.

   Stop the Machine

   Safely park the tractor, turn off the engine, and allow the system to depressurize.

   Replace the Filter

   Remove and replace the transmission/hydraulic oil filter with a new OEM filter.

   Inspect for Contamination

   Carefully inspect the old oil filter for heavy metal shavings, contamination, or debris. Excessive debris could indicate a more severe underlying mechanical failure.

   Reset and Test

   Install the new filter, check the fluid level, and restart the engine. Warm the oil to operating temperature and test the transmission to ensure the code does not return. If the code returns immediately, replace the pressure switch.
