John Deere 126 – PTA: Transmission Oil Filter Blocked
Issue description
The pressure drop across the transmission/hydraulic oil filter has exceeded the normal threshold. This indicates that the filter is restricted by debris, contamination, or extremely cold, highly viscous oil.
Applies to these machines
17 machines- 6110R
- 6120R
- 6130R
- 6145R
- 6155R
- 6175R
- 6195R
- 6215R
- 6230

Check the cause
Check if the transmission oil is extremely cold, as high viscosity can trigger a false restriction warning (allow tractor to warm up at lower RPM).
Check the transmission/hydraulic oil level using the dipstick or sight glass, as low fluid can cause aeration and pressure issues.
Visually inspect the filter housing and surrounding transmission lines for physical damage, crimps, or heavy debris accumulation.
Check the oil condition for heavy contamination, metal shavings, or a burnt smell, which could indicate internal transmission failure.
Repair steps
Prepare machine
Park the machine on a level surface, engage the parking brake, lower all implements, and turn off the engine.
Locate and remove filter
Locate the transmission/hydraulic oil filter housing. Place a drain pan underneath to catch residual oil, then unscrew and remove the restricted filter.
Clean and inspect
Wipe the filter mounting base clean. Inspect the old filter for excessive metal flakes. If heavy metal is found, further transmission diagnosis is required.
Install new filter
Apply a light film of clean John Deere HY-GARD transmission oil to the rubber gasket of the new filter. Spin the new filter on until the gasket makes contact, then tighten 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn according to printed specifications.
Refill fluid
Top off the transmission oil with approved John Deere HY-GARD fluid to the correct level. Do not use Low Viscosity or Bio-Hy-Gard unless specifically required.
Clear codes
Start the engine and let it idle. Cycle the tractor power or use the CommandCenter display to acknowledge and clear the code. Verify that the 000126.00 code does not return.
