John Deere 127.01 – PTD, PTA, PTP, PTQ, TCU: Transmission Oil Pressure Too Low

The control software detects that the transmission oil pressure (system pressure) has dropped below the acceptable threshold. This is typically triggered when the transmission oil pressure switch remains open while the transmission input speed (engine speed) exceeds 700 to 900 RPM, which may cause the equipment to enter a protective come-home mode or shift to neutral.

   Check transmission/hydraulic oil level to ensure it is within the manufacturer's recommended range

   Visually inspect the transmission system, including seals, gaskets, and hydraulic connections, for any active oil leaks

   Check the transmission oil filter for restriction or clogging (if code 126.00 or 126.16 is also present, the filter is definitely restricted)

   Test the transmission oil pressure switch/sensor (S74) to verify it is functioning correctly and not stuck open

   Monitor actual transmission oil pressure using a mechanical gauge or diagnostic tool with the engine running above 800 RPM to confirm if pressure is actually low

   Verify the transmission oil pump is engaging and operating correctly

   Top Up Fluids

   If the diagnostic checks reveal low fluid, add the manufacturer-specified transmission/hydraulic oil until it reaches the correct level.

   Replace the Transmission Oil Filter

   If the filter is old, clogged, or damaged, drain the housing and install a new OEM transmission oil filter.

   Replace the Pressure Sensor/Switch

   If mechanical pressure tests normal but the code persists, the sensor is faulty. Disconnect the wiring harness, unthread the old sensor, install the new sensor, and reconnect the harness.

   Repair Leaks

   Replace any leaking gaskets, O-rings, or hydraulic lines that are bleeding off system pressure.

   Oil Pump Replacement

   If actual system pressure is confirmed low and no leaks or filter restrictions exist, the transmission oil pump must be repaired or replaced.

   Clear Codes and Calibrate

   After repairs, clear the fault codes. It is highly recommended to perform a transmission calibration procedure (bringing the transmission up to operating temperature and running the calibration via the CommandCenter or diagnostic tool) to ensure the system registers the correct pressures.
