John Deere 1347.03 – ECU: Suction Control Valve Signal Out of Range High / Pump Control Valve Current High

Issue description

The engine's control module has detected that the voltage or current in the circuit for the high-pressure fuel pump's Suction Control Valve (SCV) exceeds the maximum specification. This typically indicates a short to power in the wiring harness or an internal short within the valve's solenoid itself, forcing the valve to close and often putting the engine into a derate (limp) mode.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness running from the ECU to the high-pressure fuel pump for chafed wires, melted insulation, or areas where the wire might be shorting to a 12V/24V power source.

  2. Disconnect the plug at the Suction Control Valve and the ECU harness connector to check for corrosion, water ingress, or bent pins.

  3. Using a multimeter, measure the resistance across the pins of the Suction Control Valve and compare to OEM specifications. An abnormally low resistance reading indicates the solenoid is internally shorted.

  4. Turn the key to the ON position (engine off) and probe the harness connector to ensure it is receiving the correct reference voltage from the ECU without any rogue high-voltage spikes.

Repair steps

  1. Prep

    Turn off the machine, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable. Clean the area around the high-pressure fuel pump thoroughly to prevent dirt from entering the fuel system.

  2. Disconnect

    Unplug the electrical connector from the Suction Control Valve (located on the Denso high-pressure fuel pump).

  3. Removal

    Remove the mounting fasteners (usually two Allen or Torx bolts) securing the SCV to the pump housing. Carefully pull the valve straight out.

  4. Installation

    Lubricate the O-rings on the new Suction Control Valve with clean diesel fuel or engine oil. Insert the new valve into the pump housing, ensuring it seats squarely without pinching the O-rings.

  5. Secure

    Install the mounting bolts and torque them to the specification listed in your specific engine's technical manual.

  6. Reassembly

    Reconnect the electrical harness. Reconnect the battery.

  7. Clear & Test

    Turn the key on and use the CommandCenter display or a diagnostic scan tool to clear the 001347.03 code. Start the engine and verify that the code does not return and that the fuel rail pressure matches the commanded pressure.
