John Deere 1348.06 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Fuel Pressure Control Valve 2, Resistance Too Low
Issue description
The Engine Control Unit (ECU) has detected a short or lower-than-expected resistance in the circuit for the second fuel pressure control valve, also known as the Fuel Suction Valve or Suction Control Valve (SCV). This valve regulates the amount of fuel entering the high-pressure fuel pump to control common rail fuel pressure. A low resistance fault indicates an electrical issue that can lead to improper valve operation and cause a range of engine performance issues.

Check the cause
Visually inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to Fuel Pressure Control Valve 2 for signs of a short circuit to ground, such as damaged insulation, frayed wires, or loose connections.
Use a multimeter or diagnostic tool to measure the resistance in the control valve circuit to confirm if a short circuit is present.
Verify if the control valve operates correctly when the ECU sends a signal to determine if the valve itself is internally shorted (if wiring is intact).
Repair steps
Ensure Safe Conditions
Replacing the fuel pressure control valve must only be carried out at engine standstill. Ensure the fuel rail and oil supply systems are completely pressureless before proceeding.
Repair or Replace Damaged Wiring
If the diagnostic checks revealed a short in the harness, fix the short circuit by repairing or replacing the faulty wiring, connectors, or terminals. Ensure all connections are secure and properly insulated.
Replace Faulty Control Valve
If the wiring is good but the valve is internally shorted, remove the defective Fuel Pressure Control Valve 2 from the high-pressure fuel pump assembly and install a new one.
Clean Filters
Check the oil/fuel supply to the fuel pressure control valve and clean the filter in the inlet if applicable.
Reset ECU and Verify Operation
After making the necessary repairs, reset the ECU to clear the 001348.06 error code. Test run the engine to confirm that the control valve operates correctly, fuel pressure regulates normally, and no further errors are detected.
