John Deere 1487.06 – CLC (Cab Load Center / Cab Load Controller): Backlight Circuit Current High
Issue description
The electrical current draw on the cab's backlight/illumination circuit is exceeding the safe or expected threshold. This condition is typically caused by a short circuit to ground, a failed lighting component (like an internally shorted bulb), or an overloaded circuit due to aftermarket accessories drawing too much power.

Check the cause
Check for aftermarket accessories (flood lights, hazard lights, or radios) spliced into the cab backlight circuit.
Inspect the physical condition of the cab roof backlight bulbs/LEDs for blown or internally shorted components.
Cycle the main light switch ON and OFF to see if the code is an active hard fault or an intermittent glitch.
Isolate the circuit by unplugging the cab roof lights one by one to see if the fault code changes from 'Current High' to 'Current Low' or clears.
Repair steps
Remove Accessories
Disconnect any non-OEM or customized lighting accessories that are drawing power from the CLC backlight circuit to ensure the total output is not excessive.
Replace Faulty Bulbs/Fixtures
If a specific cab roof light was identified as shorted during the diagnostic checks, remove the housing and replace the bulb or the entire LED fixture.
Inspect the Wiring Harness
Trace the wiring harness from the Cab Load Center to the roof backlights. Look for pinched wires, chafing against the cab frame, or melted insulation that would cause a short to ground. Repair any damaged wire sections using proper splice kits and heat shrink.
Clear Codes and Test
Reconnect all OEM components, turn the tractor key to the ON position, and cycle the lighting switch. Verify that the CLC 001487.06 code has moved to 'stored' or cleared entirely.
CLC Verification
If the wiring is completely intact and all lights are functioning but the code persists, the Cab Load Center (CLC) itself may have an internal fault and will require dealer testing/replacement.
