Check the cause

  1. Perform a basic reset by sitting firmly in the operator's seat and restarting the vehicle to rule out a temporary loss of contact

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and connector going directly to the seat switch under the operator's seat for pinched wires, corrosion, or disconnected plugs

  3. Check system configuration: If the machine is equipped with an AutoTrac Controller but does not have a physical seat switch installed, access the display menu and change the 'operator presence' setting to 'activity monitor'

Repair steps

  1. Access the Seat Switch

Tilt the operator seat forward or remove the seat cushion to access the operator presence switch and its wiring harness.

  2. Test the Switch

Disconnect the switch and use a multimeter to test for continuity. The switch should show an open circuit when the seat is empty and a closed circuit (continuity) when weight is applied to the seat.

  3. Replace if Faulty

If the switch fails the continuity test, remove it (many are twist-lock or snap-mount designs) and install a replacement.

  4. Check CAN Bus Lines

If the switch tests good and the harness has no visible damage, the issue lies in the CAN bus communication lines between the seat harness and the SSU/RPT module.

  5. Dealer Intervention

If wiring is intact and the code persists, have your John Deere dealer repair as soon as possible, as the SSU/RPT module may require reprogramming or replacement.
