John Deere 1504.19 – OIC / PTF / RPT: Operator Presence Switch, Malfunction

The OIC (Operator Information Center) control software cannot determine the presence of the operator in the seat. A replacement value is transmitted across the CAN bus, which triggers the fault code in the receiving modules.

   Inspect the wiring harness between the operator presence switch (in the seat) and the OIC module for signs of an open circuit, chafed wires, or loose connections.

   Ensure the connector at the seat switch is secure, free of corrosion, and not damaged by seat movement.

   Use a multimeter to test the operator presence switch for continuity, verifying that the circuit opens and closes correctly when weight is applied to and removed from the seat cushion.

   Ensure that the OIC, PTF, and RPT control software are updated to the latest versions.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent accidental short circuits while working on the CAN bus system.

   Access the Switch

   Locate the operator presence switch, which is integrated into the bottom cushion base of the seat.

   Disconnect and Inspect

   Unplug the switch connector. Inspect the pins for pushed-out terminals or corrosion.

   Replace if Faulty

   If the switch failed the continuity diagnostic check, remove the mounting hardware and install the new operator presence switch.

   Repair Wiring (If Applicable)

   If the switch tested fine but the code persists, trace the wiring harness down the seat suspension base to the cab floor. Repair any broken wires caused by the mechanical suspension movement.

   Reassemble and Clear Codes

   Reconnect the switch, restore battery power, and use a diagnostic tool to clear the active 001504.19 codes from the OIC, PTF, and RPT modules.

   Test Operation

   Sit in the seat, start the tractor, and verify that the CAN bus is receiving operator presence data and the code does not return.
