John Deere 1504.3 – CAB: Operator Presence Switch, Faulty Signal

The control unit has received a continuous, uninterrupted 'closed' signal (indicating the seat is occupied) from the operator presence switch for an extended period (typically 12.8 to 20 hours). This indicates either a mechanically stuck switch, a bypassed switch, or a short in the signal lead.

   Have the operator stand up and remove all weight from the seat for at least 5 seconds to see if the switch opens and the CAB module registers the status change

   Inspect the seat switch (located under the seat cushion) to ensure it is not mechanically stuck, bound by debris, or intentionally bypassed (e.g., jumper wire installed)

   Disconnect the switch and use a multimeter to test continuity (should be closed when weight is applied and open when weight is removed)

   Inspect the wiring harness (lead 6087) routing from the seat to the CAB module for pinched wires causing a short to ground or a short to voltage

   Preparation

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

   Access the Switch

   Tilt the seat forward or remove the bottom seat cushion to access the operator presence switch and its wiring pigtail.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the electrical connector from the seat switch.

   Remove the Switch

   Depending on the seat model, the switch will either be a twist-lock mount, a snap-in mount, or secured with small retaining screws. Remove the faulty switch.

   Install New Switch

   Insert the replacement switch into the seat base and secure it.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the electrical harness. Ensure the wiring is routed safely away from the seat suspension's moving parts to prevent future pinching or shorts.

   Test

   Reconnect the battery. Turn the key on, sit in the seat, and then stand up for at least 5 seconds. Verify that the 001504.30 fault code moves from 'Active' to 'Stored' and clear the code using the CommandCenter display or diagnostic tool.
