John Deere 1533 – RCU: Feeder House Tilt Sensor Voltage Low
Issue description
The feeder house tilt sensor (cc# 815) is reporting an illogical voltage reading to the Rear Control Unit (RCU). This indicates an imbalance in the sensor's output, specifically reporting a higher voltage when the feeder house is tilted to the left than when it is tilted to the right, or an out-of-range voltage (greater than 4.5 VDC) when at the right tilt position. This fault disables or impairs the Contour Master system's ability to automatically adjust the header's tilt to follow ground contours.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness connected to the feeder house tilt sensor for any signs of damage, such as frayed wires, corrosion, or loose connections.
Ensure the electrical connector is securely plugged into the sensor.
Inspect the sensor itself and the associated linkage for any physical damage or obstructions that might impede its movement.
Review the system for other active fault codes related to the feeder house tilt sensor (e.g., voltage out of range high, calibration issues) to narrow down the failure.
Repair steps
Secure the feeder house
Raise the feeder house completely and install the safety stop to prevent accidental lowering before beginning any work.
Replace the sensor
Locate the feeder house tilt sensor, disconnect the electrical connector, and unbolt the sensor from its mounting point. Install the new sensor, ensuring it is correctly oriented and the linkage is properly attached.
Calibrate the new sensor
Park the combine on a hard, level surface. Access the calibration menu through the combine's display (often via a diagnostic or calibration switch) and select the feeder house tilt (tiLt) calibration mode. Follow the display prompts to move the feeder house to its full left, full right, and center positions so the system can record the sensor's voltage at these extreme points.
Clear fault codes
After the repair and calibration are complete, clear the fault codes from the control unit using the diagnostic display.
Verify operation
Operate the feeder house tilt function to ensure it is working correctly and verify that the fault code does not reappear.
