John Deere 1549.07 – ATC (Automatic Temperature Control) / ETC (Electronic Temperature Control): Heater Valve Fault / Water Valve Motor Mechanical Fault

Triggered when the control unit receives a valid position signal from the heater valve potentiometer, but the heater valve cannot be moved to its commanded position via the motor's connecting leads. This typically indicates that the water valve is mechanically stuck/binding, or there is an open line/circuit issue at the motor's connecting leads.

   Restart the engine to verify if the active Service Code reappears (system reset).

   Locate the heater water valve and check if the valve linkage is physically jammed by debris or corrosion.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors going to the heater valve motor (B131 or Y221) for signs of damage, corrosion, or an open circuit.

   Use a multimeter to measure the voltage at the motor connecting leads to ensure the ATC module is sending the proper voltage command.

   Verify that the potentiometer is sending a smooth, linear resistance/voltage signal back to the ATC as the valve is manually moved.

   Preparation

   Turn off the machine, remove the key, and allow the engine coolant to cool completely to prevent burns.

   Access the Valve

   Remove the necessary cab panels or access covers to reach the heater control valve.

   Clamp Hoses

   Use hose pinch-off pliers on the coolant lines on both sides of the water valve to prevent excessive coolant loss.

   Disconnect Electrical

   Unplug the electrical harness connector from the heater valve motor.

   Remove the Valve

   Loosen the hose clamps and slide the hoses off the valve. Remove any mounting bolts or brackets holding the valve assembly in place, and remove the faulty unit.

   Install the New Valve

   Position the new electric water valve, secure it to the mounting bracket, and reattach the coolant hoses. Tighten the hose clamps securely.

   Reconnect and Unclamp

   Plug the electrical connector back into the new motor. Remove the hose pinch-off pliers.

   Refill and Test

   Start the tractor and turn the cab heat to maximum. Check the valve for coolant leaks. Top off the engine coolant reservoir as needed to replace any lost fluid.

   Clear Codes

   Acknowledge and clear the ATC 1549.07 code via the CommandCenter display. Some models may require an ATC calibration procedure via the monitor to learn the new valve's end-stops.
