John Deere 001553.04 – ATC: Fan Speed Control, Voltage Too Low (ATC)
Issue description
This fault code is generated when the ClimaTrak controller measures below 0 volts (or less than 0.5 VDC) at the signal input of the fan speed control. This typically indicates a short to ground in the internal circuit of the controller or a voltage problem within the blower control circuit.

Check the cause
Restart the engine to verify if the active Service Code reappears, as resetting communication messages may clear it
Observe system behavior to verify the fan speed has defaulted to 75% of its maximum output and temperature control is restricted
Measure the voltage at the fan speed control signal input (should not be less than 0.5 VDC; below 0 volts confirms a short to ground)
Inspect the wiring harness between the ATC unit and the blower motor controller for chafing, pinched wires, or corrosion
Repair steps
Disconnect power
Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery ground to prevent electrical damage during testing.
Inspect connectors
Disconnect the harness at the ATC module and the blower motor controller. Inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or damage.
Test for shorts
Using a multimeter, test the fan speed control signal wire for continuity to ground.
Repair wiring
If a short to ground is found in the harness, repair or replace the affected section of the wiring.
Replace controller or resistor
If the wiring harness tests good (no shorts) but the voltage at the controller remains out of specification, the internal circuit of the blower motor controller (resistor) or the ATC module itself has failed and must be replaced.
Reassemble and clear codes
Reconnect all components, restore battery power, start the machine, and clear the stored codes via the CommandCenter display. Verify that the blower motor operates correctly across all speed settings.
