1569.31

John Deere 1569.31 – ECU: Engine in Power Derate Condition

Issue description

An informational/symptom code indicating the control unit has detected a critical condition (such as overheating, low fuel pressure, or emissions system faults) and is actively limiting the maximum amount of fuel available to the engine to prevent catastrophic damage.

Check the cause

  1. Access the machine's message center or connect John Deere Service Advisor to read all active and stored ECU codes

  2. Identify the root cause by looking for accompanying primary codes (e.g., Coolant Temperature High, Low Fuel Pressure, Water in Fuel, EGR System Faults, or Turbocharger Issues)

  3. If fuel codes are present, check fuel filter condition and drain the fuel/water separator

  4. If temperature codes are present, check the engine coolant level and inspect the radiator for debris

  5. If EGR or sensor codes are present, test sensor wiring harnesses for proper 5-volt reference and ground

Repair steps

  1. Read All Codes

Turn the key ON (engine off) and document every active and stored code in the ECU.

  2. Ignore 1569.31 Temporarily

Do not attempt to 'fix' the derate code itself. It is merely a software response.

  3. Repair the Primary Fault

Follow the OEM diagnostic procedure for the other codes present. If fuel codes are present: Replace the primary and secondary fuel filters, drain the water separator, and verify lift pump operation. If temperature codes are present: Clean the radiator fins, verify the coolant fill valve is closed, and check for pinched hoses. If EGR codes are present: Perform a harness wiggle test, verify 5V power/ground to the EGR Delta Pressure Sensor, and replace the sensor if voltage readings are unstable.

  4. Clear Codes and Test

Once the root cause is repaired, use the diagnostic tool or monitor to clear all stored codes. Start the engine and apply a load to verify the derate condition has lifted and no codes return.
