Check the cause
Scan Tool Data Logging: Use John Deere Service Advisor to graph Actual vs. Desired Fuel Rail Pressure to confirm the high-pressure condition under load or at higher RPMs.
Return Line Restriction Check: Disconnect the fuel return line and measure the return flow at RPM to eliminate the possibility of a downstream restriction.
Cylinder Balance Test: Perform a cylinder performance/balance test to check for injector deviation (cylinders should ideally be within 2% of each other).
Wiring Load Test: Load test the wiring harnesses going to the Suction Control Valve (SCV) and the Fuel Rail Pressure (FRP) sensor.
Check the Suction Control Valve (SCV): Inspect for internal suction control pin wear that could cause it to hang up and over-pressurize the rail.
Repair steps
Change Fuel Filters
Change the low-pressure fuel filters and re-test the machine.
Replace the Suction Control Valve (SCV)
If the rail pressure hangs up during operation, replace the SCV.
Replace the Pressure Relief Valve (PRV)
If the pressure relief valve is lifting prematurely or failing to vent excess pressure, replace the valve and its solenoid.
Replace the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor
If the wiring is good but the sensor is misreading at the higher end of the pressure spectrum, replace the sensor.
Test/Replace Injectors
If the problem persists after addressing the SCV and PRV, pull the fuel injectors and send them to a specialized fuel injection shop to be tested for sticking.
