John Deere 000158.03 – Multiple: Voltage To Module Over 16 Volts
Issue description
The electrical system's switched power supply circuit has exceeded the 16-volt threshold. Normal operating voltage is typically between 13.5 and 14.5 volts when the engine is running. This overvoltage condition indicates an electrical supply issue, usually an overcharging alternator, which can damage sensitive electronic components and control modules. The system logs this fault as a protective measure to alert the operator of the potentially harmful electrical environment.

Check the cause
Cycle the ignition key off and then on again to verify if the fault is intermittent
Visually inspect the battery and alternator for physical damage, corrosion on terminals, or an accumulation of debris, ensuring all connections are clean and tight
Measure system voltage directly at the battery terminals with the engine running (a reading significantly above 14.8 volts confirms a system-wide overcharging condition)
Check for other active fault codes that may provide more specific information about the location of the fault
Inspect the power supply wiring to the affected module for any signs of damage, such as chafing, pinching, or corrosion, which could lead to a short circuit
Repair steps
Test and replace alternator
If diagnostic checks indicate a system-wide overcharging issue (voltage significantly above 14.8V), perform a comprehensive alternator test. If the internal voltage regulator is found to be faulty, replace the entire alternator assembly.
Inspect module and wiring
If the over-voltage condition is not system-wide and appears isolated to the Front Chassis Module (PTF), inspect the module and its electrical connectors for damage or corrosion. Check the wiring harness for shorts to power leading to the PTF module.
Replace Front Chassis Module
If the alternator and wiring are confirmed to be in good condition and the fault persists, the issue likely lies within the Front Chassis Module itself. Replace the module.
