John Deere 158.03 – Roof Module (ATC): Switched Supply Voltage High
Issue description
Voltage to the module is over 16 volts. This indicates an overvoltage condition in the machine's electrical system, meaning the control unit is registering a supply voltage that exceeds the safe operating threshold (typically > 16.0V).
Applies to these machines
12 machines- 6110R
- 6120R
- 6130R
- 6145R
- 6155R
- 6175R
- 6195R

- 6155RH
- 6230R
- 6250R
Check the cause
Test alternator output with a multimeter at the battery terminals while the engine is running (readings exceeding 15.5V - 16.0V indicate a failed internal voltage regulator)
Visually inspect the charging system, including the alternator and batteries, for physical damage, loose connections, or accumulated debris
Inspect the alternator cable, battery cables, and the wiring harness leading to the cab/roof module for shorts to a higher voltage source or severe corrosion
Check for companion codes (e.g., 158.03 in VLC or CAB) to confirm if this is a central charging system failure rather than an isolated ATC wiring short
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the engine and disconnect the negative battery cable to ensure safety.
Clean Connections
If the overvoltage is caused by a loose or heavily corroded battery/alternator ground (which can sometimes cause voltage spikes), clean the battery terminals and alternator connections thoroughly. Re-test the system.
Replace the Alternator
If the alternator is confirmed to be outputting over 16 volts, the internal voltage regulator is faulty. Remove the serpentine belt, disconnect the electrical connections to the alternator, and unbolt the unit.
Install New Alternator
Mount the replacement alternator, torque the mounting bolts to OEM spec, reconnect the electrical terminals, and reinstall the drive belt.
Verify Repair
Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and verify that the running voltage is now stable (typically between 13.5V and 14.5V). Cycle the key switch to clear the active fault codes.
