John Deere 158.04 – Front Chassis Module (PTF): Voltage To Module Is Low / Switched Supply Voltage Low
Issue description
The control unit has detected that the switched ignition supply voltage (the power provided when the key is turned on) has dropped below the acceptable operating threshold (typically below 9.0 volts). This condition forces the module to disable its controlled functions to prevent erratic behavior or damage.

Check the cause
Visually inspect the area around the batteries and the alternator for any signs of damage, loose cables, or accumulated debris that could cause a short or poor ground.
Cycle the key switch or restart the tractor to see if the code is a momentary glitch that clears upon rebooting the CAN BUS system.
Test the resting battery voltage and the alternator charging output to ensure the primary electrical system is generating sufficient voltage.
Check the fuses in the cab load center that supply switched power to the chassis modules (commonly F24, F30, F44, or F51).
Use a multimeter to test the voltage directly at the switched power pins on the PTF module connector. Look for corrosion, backed-out pins, or chafed wiring.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable to ensure safety while working on the electrical system.
Clean Connections
Clean the battery terminals, chassis grounds, and alternator connections. Re-tighten them to spec.
Replace Fuses
If any fuses related to the ignition/switched power circuit are blown, replace them with the exact same amperage rating.
Repair Wiring
If your multimeter test revealed low voltage at the PTF connector but good voltage at the fuse box, trace the wiring harness and repair any damaged wires or clean corroded connector pins.
Test the System
Reconnect the battery and turn the key switch on. Monitor the CommandCenter™ display.
Module Replacement
If the wiring, fuses, battery, and alternator are all in perfect condition (delivering 12V+ to the module), but the PTF module still logs the 000158.04 low-voltage code, the module has an internal hardware failure. Replace the Front Chassis Module (PTF).
Calibration
If a new PTF module is installed, a John Deere dealer will likely need to flash/program the module with the correct software payload for your specific tractor configuration so it can communicate on the CAN BUS.
