John Deere 162.02 – PTR (Power Train Reverser): High/Low Switch Circuit Conflict

The control module logs this code when it detects an invalid state where both the "High" and "Low" transmission switch inputs are simultaneously active. Because the transmission cannot be commanded into high and low ranges at the exact same time, the system flags this as a circuit conflict.

   Physical Inspection: Inspect the High and Low momentary switches (usually located on the gear shift lever) for physical damage, debris obstruction, or a stuck button.

   Wiring and Connection Check: Inspect the wiring harness and connectors associated with the High/Low switches. Look specifically for pinched wires, melted insulation, or corrosion that could cause a short circuit between the High and Low signal wires.

   Multimeter Testing: Use a multimeter to test the switch circuitry. Verify that the switches open and close independently and correctly. Ensure there is no continuity between the High and Low circuits when the switches are at rest.

   Control Unit Input Test: Test the inputs at the PTR control unit to verify proper voltage levels when the switches are activated, ruling out a faulty PTR module.

   Disconnect Power

   Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.
