John Deere 168.01 – XMC: Steering Control Unit (AutoTrac™), Supply Voltage (BAT) Too Low
Issue description
The control unit registers a supply voltage that has dropped below the normal operating range (typically below 9 to 11 volts). Because the supply voltage is too low, the control software will limit or disable certain AutoTrac™ functions to prevent damage and ensure safe operation.

Check the cause
Verify the voltage of the battery with a multimeter to ensure it is above 9–11 volts.
Perform a load test on the battery to check its overall condition and charge level.
Inspect the wiring harness supplying power to the XMC module for any signs of damage, wear, or corrosion.
Ensure the alternator is functioning properly and providing adequate voltage to the system while the machine is running.
Repair steps
Address Wiring Issues
If the diagnostic checks reveal damaged wiring or corroded connections leading to the XMC module, repair or replace the affected wiring.
Service the Battery
If the battery is not holding a charge, is damaged, or fails a load test, replace the battery.
Service the Charging System
If the alternator is failing to keep the system voltage in the normal operating range, repair or replace the alternator.
Clear the Code
After repairs are made, cycle the key switch to restore power to the tractor and verify if the code clears.
