Issue description

The control unit has detected that the unswitched supply voltage (direct battery power) has dropped below the normal operational threshold of 9.0 Volts. This low voltage condition can impair the functionality of the cab's electronic components, prompting the system to disable certain functions or limit gear selection to protect the system's integrity.

Check the cause

  1. Test the battery to ensure it is holding a proper charge. A weak or dying battery is the most common cause of a sub-9V drop.

  2. Test the alternator and voltage regulator. Ensure the alternator is outputting the correct voltage to charge the battery while the engine is running.

  3. Check the cab power fuses (specifically unswitched power fuses in the Cab Load Center) for blown filaments or loose seating.

  4. Visually inspect the wiring harness, battery terminals, and alternator connections for signs of damage, corrosion, or accumulated debris. Pay special attention to the chassis grounds.

  5. Use a multimeter to measure the voltage directly at the unswitched power input pins on the OIC module harness. Verify if the voltage is actually below 9.0V or if the module is reading it incorrectly.

Repair steps

  1. Attempt Vehicle Recovery

    Reduce the electrical load in the cab (turn off AC, lights, radio) and increase engine RPM to boost alternator output.

  2. Cycle Power

    Power down the tractor, wait a few moments, and restart the engine to see if the code clears.

  3. Clean Connections

    Disconnect the battery. Clean the battery posts, terminals, and main chassis ground connections with a wire brush. Reconnect and tighten securely.

  4. Repair Wiring

    If the multimeter test showed low voltage at the OIC but good voltage at the battery, trace the wiring harness back to the battery/fuse panel. Repair any chafed wires or replace corroded connectors.

  5. Replace Charging Components

    If the alternator or battery failed the diagnostic tests, replace them.

  6. Clear Codes

    After repairs are made, cycle the key switch or use the CommandCenter™ display to clear the diagnostic trouble codes. Test operate the machine to ensure the code does not return.
