Check the cause
Verify the transmission/hydraulic oil level. Low oil volume is a primary cause of overheating under heavy hydraulic loads.
Inspect the transmission oil cooler for plugging. Look for mud, chaff, or debris blocking airflow through the cooler fins.
Inspect the oil cooler lines for pinched hoses, kinks, or restrictions that would prevent fluid from circulating through the cooler.
Check if code 000126.16 (Transmission Oil Filter Restricted) is also active. A clogged filter can cause bypass issues leading to excess heat.
Inspect the wiring harness for the Transmission Oil Temperature Sensor (designated as sensor B60, lead 6002). Look for chafing, open circuits, or shorts to a positive lead.
Repair steps
Cool down machine
Stop the vehicle, reduce the engine speed/load, and allow the transmission and hydraulic oil to cool down.
Clean the cooler
Use compressed air or a pressure washer (carefully, to avoid bending fins) to clean the transmission oil cooler and radiator assembly.
Correct fluid levels
Check the transmission dipstick or sight glass. If the fluid is low, top it off with approved John Deere Hy-Gard transmission/hydraulic fluid.
Replace the filter
If the oil cooler is clean and the fluid level is correct, replace the transmission oil filter(s), as a restricted filter is a common culprit for hydraulic overheating.
Test or replace the B60 sensor
If the transmission is not physically overheating but the code persists, the B60 Transmission Oil Temperature Sensor is likely faulty or sending skewed resistance values. Remove the sensor and test its resistance against OEM specs, or replace it directly.
Clear codes and test
Cycle the tractor power or use the CommandCenter / Service ADVISOR tool to clear the stored 000177.16 code and test operate the machine under load to verify the repair.
