   Inspect the steering wheel position sensor (located in the steering column) for any physical signs of damage, wear, or loose mounting.

   Ensure the sensor's wiring harness is properly installed and securely connected. Look for corrosion or pinched wires that could cause a high-frequency short.

   Use a John Deere diagnostic tool to monitor the sensor frequency live. Verify if it consistently falls outside the expected range and compare the readings with the XMC/XSC control software to identify discrepancies.

   Check for and install any available updates for the XSC control software to address potential bugs or signal processing issues.

   Access sensor

   Power down the machine and remove the steering column shrouds to access the steering wheel position sensor.

   Inspect wiring

   Disconnect the wiring harness from the sensor, inspecting the pins for corrosion or damage.

   Remove faulty sensor

   If the wiring tests good but the frequency remains out of range on the diagnostic tool, unbolt and remove the faulty steering wheel position sensor.

   Install new sensor

   Install the new OEM steering wheel position sensor and secure it in place.

   Reconnect wiring

   Reconnect the wiring harness.

   Clear fault code

   Connect your diagnostic tool, clear the 001807.16 fault code from the XSC/SSU module.

   Calibrate steering system

   Perform a calibration of the rotation angle sensor / steering system via the diagnostic display, as installing a new steering sensor requires the system to relearn the center and end-stop positions.

8. 8

   Test drive

   Test drive the machine to ensure AutoTrac and manual steering function correctly and the code does not return.
