John Deere 1807.18 – XSC, SSU, or XSA: Steering Wheel Position Sensor 1 Frequency Low (Frequency at Channel 1 Too Low)

This error code is generated when the frequency at channel 1 of the steering wheel position sensor falls below 150 Hz. This low frequency indicates a potential issue with the sensor itself, its wiring, or its signal processing. When this fault occurs, the control software will exhibit limited or no functionality, affecting the accuracy and responsiveness of the steering system (and often kicking out AutoTrac/Auto Guidance systems).

   Determine if sensor replacement is necessary

   If wiring and connections are verified to be intact and secure, but the frequency remains below 150 Hz, the steering wheel position sensor has failed and must be replaced.

   Access the steering column (often requiring removal of the cowl/trim at the base of the steering column) to remove the faulty sensor.

   Install new sensor

   Install the new steering wheel position sensor and securely connect the wiring harness.
