John Deere 1807.2 – XSC / XSA, SSU, TSA: Steering Wheel Position Sensor 1 Duty Cycle High

Issue description

The electronic signal (duty cycle) coming from channel 1 of the steering wheel rotary position sensor is exceeding the normal upper limit. This condition usually points to a malfunctioning sensor, a wiring harness issue (such as a short to power), or a signal processing error.

  5. Check for and install any available updates for the steering control software to address potential bugs or signal processing issues.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

    Park the machine on a level surface, lower any attachments to the ground, stop the engine, and remove the key. Allow the machine to cool and ensure the electrical system is powered down.

  2. Locate the Sensor

    Access the steering column where the rotary steering wheel position sensor is mounted.

  3. Disconnect

    Carefully unplug the electrical connector from the sensor.

  4. Removal

    Remove the mounting hardware securing the sensor to the steering column and slide the old sensor off the shaft.

  5. Installation

    Install the new steering wheel position sensor in the correct orientation and secure it with the mounting hardware.

  6. Reconnect

    Plug the electrical harness back into the new sensor, ensuring the connector clicks securely into place.

  7. Calibration and Testing

    Connect a diagnostic tool to clear the 001807.20 fault code. You may need to perform a steering sensor calibration procedure via the diagnostic tool or the in-cab display so the module learns the new sensor's center position. Test the steering system for proper operation.
