1859.19

John Deere 1859.19 – SCC (Rear Chassis Module) or SCU (Steering/Chassis Control Unit): Radar Message Reporting an Error / Radar Not Available

Issue description

The control module is not receiving a valid ground speed signal from the dual-beam radar sensor over the CAN BUS network.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the radar sensor (typically mounted under the cab or chassis) to ensure the dual-beam emission horns and shield are not blocked by heavy mud, crop debris, or ice.

  2. Check the wiring harness and connector at the radar sensor for corrosion, moisture intrusion, or loose pins.

  3. Inspect the CAN BUS wiring between the radar sensor and the SCC/SCU module for chafing or breaks.

  4. Attempt a recalibration before replacing parts, as the radar may have lost its calibration due to a voltage drop or software glitch.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect battery

    Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

  2. Unplug harness

Unplug the wiring harness from the faulty radar sensor.

  3. Remove sensor

Unbolt the sensor from its mounting bracket and remove the shield.

  4. Install new sensor

Install the new radar sensor and torque the mounting hardware to OEM specifications. Reconnect the harness.

  5. Prepare for calibration

Ensure the tractor is unladen (no load) and parked on a hard, level, dry surface. Note: Manual calibration must not be performed on John Deere dual-beam radars; use the automatic calibration feature.

  6. Access calibration menu

Access the CommandCenter™ display and press the Menu button. Navigate to Performance Monitor → Performance Monitor Settings → Calibrate Radar.

  7. Activate radar

Check the box for John Deere™ Dual-Beam Radar Activated.

  8. Drive and confirm

Drive the tractor in a straight line at approximately 2 mph (3.2 km/h) to 5 mph (8 km/h) and press the confirm button.

  9. Stop and verify

Stop the tractor when the display prompts you. The screen will show if the calibration was successful. Note: If calibration fails on three successive attempts, there may be a mounting angle issue or a secondary CAN BUS fault.
