The control unit detects that the front PTO has been switched on, but the speed signal registered by the PTO speed sensor is either non-existent (typically less than 100 rpm after a 20-second delay) or falls below the expected operational threshold. This discrepancy usually points to a sensor malfunction, a wiring/communication error, or mechanical slippage in the PTO clutch.

   Verify that the implement connected to the front PTO is operating correctly and is not mechanically binding, which could drag the PTO speed down

   Locate the Front PTO Speed Sensor (component B58) and ensure it is securely mounted and properly calibrated

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the speed sensor for open circuits, shorts, or corrosion

   System Reset

   Turn off the PTO, shut down the tractor, and turn the ignition back on. Sometimes a simple power cycle can clear a transient logic error.

   Clean and Reconnect

   Disconnect the wiring harness at the Front PTO Speed Sensor (B58). Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner to remove any moisture or corrosion, then securely reconnect it.

   Test/Replace the Sensor

   If the code persists, use a multimeter or John Deere Service ADVISOR to test the sensor's output. If the sensor is failing to read the tone wheel, replace the Front PTO Speed Sensor.

   Inspect the PTO Clutch

   If the sensor and wiring are confirmed good, the issue is likely mechanical. Inspect the front PTO clutch pack for signs of excessive slip, wear, or low engagement pressure. Adjust or replace the clutch assembly as necessary.

   Flash the PTF module with the latest control software version, as OEM patches are frequently released to address overly sensitive speed regulation logic.
