John Deere 1871.09 – BLC: Incorrect CAN BUS Message, Information from TEC Control Software

Issue description

A data transfer problem has occurred between the BLC control software and the TEC (Tractor Equipment Control) software. The reception of one or more CAN messages transmitted by the TEC control software is intermittent, corrupted, or non-existent.

Applies to these machines

  • 6110M
  • 6120M
  • 6130M
  • 6145M
  • 6155M
  • 6175M
  • 6195M
  • 6090MC
  • 6090RC
  • 6100MC
  • 6100RC
  • 6110MC
  • 6110RC

Check the cause

  1. Inspect all CAN bus connections between the BLC and TEC control modules for secure installation, damaged or backed-out pins, and corroded connectors.

  2. Verify the wiring harness integrity along the CAN bus network, ensuring wires are intact, free of chafing, and not shorting against the chassis.

  3. Use a CAN bus analyzer or John Deere Service ADVISOR to test the network for intermittent connections, abnormal traffic, or data transfer issues.

  4. Verify that the TEC and BLC control software are up to date, as software glitches can cause message processing errors.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

  2. Access the Modules

Locate the BLC and TEC control modules and their respective wiring harnesses.

  3. Repair Wiring/Connectors

If the diagnostic checks revealed loose, corroded, or damaged wires/connectors, repair or replace the compromised sections of the wiring harness. Ensure all pins are seated tightly in their connectors.

  4. Reconnect and Secure

Reconnect all CAN bus harnesses securely. Ensure the wiring is routed away from high-heat or high-vibration areas to prevent future chafing.

  5. Update Software

Reconnect the battery. Connect John Deere Service ADVISOR and flash the TEC and BLC modules with the latest software updates to address any potential CAN message processing bugs.

  6. Clear and Test

Clear the BLC 001871.09 fault code from the system. Operate the tractor and implement to verify that the CAN bus communication is fully restored and the code does not return.
