1872.02

John Deere 1872.02 – SCO: Front Hitch Calibration Fault

Issue description

The control software cannot successfully complete the calibration sequence for the front hitch. This can happen due to improper calibration conditions (like low hydraulic oil temperature or low engine RPM), a physical blockage, or a faulty position sensor.

Applies to these machines

Check the cause

  1. Check for related SCO codes (e.g., 001872.03/04/16/18 for sensor voltage issues, 001872.07 for a blocked hitch, or 000177.02 for low oil temperature)

  2. Check hydraulic oil temperature to ensure it is at operating temperature

  3. Visually inspect the front hitch position sensor, external switches, harness, and connectors for damage, debris, or incompatible connections

  4. Ensure the front hitch can move freely without mechanical binding

Repair steps

  1. Warm Up the Machine

Operate the tractor's hydraulic functions to heat the hydraulic oil to the manufacturer's recommended operating temperature.

  2. Increase Engine Speed

Increase the engine RPM, as low flow can cause the calibration to fail.

  3. Repeat Calibration

Attempt the front hitch calibration procedure again via the cab monitor.

  4. Test the Sensor

If calibration fails again, use a multimeter to test the Front Hitch Position Sensor and its wiring harness for open circuits or shorts to ground.

  5. Replace Components

If the sensor is faulty, replace it and recalibrate. If the sensor and wiring are intact but the SCO module refuses to calibrate or communicate, the SCO module itself may require replacement or a software re-flash by a John Deere dealer.

Parts you might need

(4)
  • Front Hitch Position Sensor

    AE74688

Fits 7R and 8R series tractors. Available via OEM or aftermarket (e.g., Abilene Machine).

  • Front Hitch Position Sensor Plate

    R551305
  • SCV Controller, SCO/EHO & Cover Ver

    RE216996

Module part numbers vary heavily by exact serial number and options; verify with the dealer using the machine's VIN/PIN before ordering.

  • Hitch and Selective Control Valve Controller
