John Deere 1872.16 – SCO: Front Hitch Position Sensor Circuit Voltage High

This condition occurs when the controller detects that the voltage signal returning from the front hitch position sensor exceeds the normal operating range. This is typically caused by a short circuit to a voltage source, an open ground circuit in the sensor wiring, or an internal failure of the rotary angle sensor itself.

   Inspect the front hitch position sensor, its connector, and the wiring harness routing back to the SCO module for physical damage, corrosion, or accumulated debris.

   Test the sensor's signal wire for a short circuit to a voltage source.

   Verify that the sensor ground circuit has good continuity and is not open.

   Clear the fault codes and cycle the front hitch through all of its positions to see if the code returns as active.

   Power Down

   Disconnect the negative battery terminal before servicing the electrical system.

   Locate the Sensor

   Locate the front hitch position sensor (a rotary angle sensor) mounted on the front hitch assembly linkage.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the wiring harness connector from the sensor.

   Harness Repair (If Applicable)

   If your diagnostic checks revealed a short to voltage or an open ground in the harness, repair the damaged wiring or replace the affected harness section.

   Sensor Replacement

   If the wiring tests good, remove the mounting hardware securing the front hitch position sensor.

   Installation

   Install the new rotary angle sensor and secure it with the mounting hardware. Reconnect the wiring harness connector.

   Restore Power

   Reconnect the battery.

   Calibration

   You must perform a Front Hitch Position Sensor Calibration using the tractor's display monitor or John Deere Service ADVISOR. The SCO module needs to learn the new sensor's voltage values at the hitch's upper and lower physical limits.
