John Deere 1881.04 – HCC / HCU: Rear Hitch Draft Sensor Circuit Voltage Low
Issue description
The voltage signal from the rear hitch draft sensor has dropped below 0.20 volts, causing degraded hitch control function and potentially a stuck or unresponsive 3-point hitch.

Check the cause
Restart the tractor's engine to verify if the active service code reappears, as a system reset can sometimes correct communication messages
Ensure there is weight on the hitch and that it is not physically bound up (a stuck hitch can trigger draft sensor faults until nudged loose)
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors associated with the Rear Hitch Draft Sensor for physical damage, loose connections, or corrosion
Measure the sensor's output voltage with a multimeter to ensure it is reading above 0.20 volts
Repair steps
Repair Wiring
If the diagnostic voltage test reveals a short or broken wire in the harness leading to the draft pin, repair or replace the affected wiring.
Replace the Sensor
If the wiring is intact but the voltage remains below 0.20V, the draft sensor itself is defective and must be replaced.
Lubricate
During reassembly, lubricate the rear hitch draft sensor using John Deere SD Polyurea grease (or the grease specified in your specific operator's manual).
Calibrate the HCC/HCU
After replacing the sensor, you must perform a proper calibration of the Rear Hitch Draft Sensor according to the manufacturer's instructions via the tractor's CommandCenter display or dealer diagnostic tool.
