John Deere 190.01 – HCC: Engine Speed Below Normal Operational Range, Most Severe Level
Issue description
The control software detects that the engine speed has dropped dangerously low, risking an engine stall. This is typically an operational fault caused by heavy engine load, insufficient fuel supply, air intake issues, or an erratic engine speed sensor.

Check the cause
Verify Engine RPM on the CommandCenter™ or dash display to see if the reading is accurate or erratic/dropping out
Check for machine overload, such as incorrect gear selection or heavy draft load on the rear hitch
Inspect the wiring harness and connections at the Engine Speed Sensor (Crankshaft Position Sensor) if RPM data is erratic or missing
Check for restricted fuel filters, low fuel pressure, or a plugged air filter if the engine is genuinely bogging down and lacking power
Repair steps
Operator Recovery
Return the shift lever to the 'Park' or 'Neutral' position to disengage the load.
Clear the Code
Cycle the key switch (turn the tractor off, then back on) to clear the active fault from the CommandCenter™.
Adjust Operation
Restart the engine, increase the engine RPM, and reduce the physical load on the machine (e.g., raise the rear hitch slightly or select a lower gear).
Perform Maintenance
Replace the primary and secondary fuel filters and the engine air filter to ensure the engine can produce full power under load if the engine lacks power.
Sensor Replacement
If the engine speed drops out on the display while the engine is physically running fine, replace the Engine Speed Sensor and repair any damaged pins in the sensor connector.
