Check the cause

  1. Inspect the fuse panel for blown fuses, specifically checking Fuse F24 (or F9 on some models) which powers the communication system.

  2. Examine the CAN BUS wiring harness between the Engine ECU and the EIC for chafing, looseness, or damage.

  3. Ensure all connectors between the ECU and the EIC are properly seated, secure, and free from moisture, corrosion, or debris.

  4. Disconnect the battery for a few minutes to perform a hard reset, reconnect, and attempt to clear the stored codes.

  5. Use John Deere Service ADVISOR to test the CAN BUS network integrity and verify that the ECU and EIC software are up-to-date.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery.

  2. Fuse Replacement

If Fuse F24 (or the respective CAN/ECU fuse) is blown, replace it. Reconnect the battery and turn the key to ON. If the code clears, the issue was an isolated power surge or short.

  3. Harness Repair

If the fuse is intact but wiring damage was found during diagnostics, repair or replace the compromised sections of the CAN BUS wiring harness. Secure any loose pins in the connectors.

  4. Module Replacement

If the wiring is verified good, the fuses are intact, and the code remains active, replace the EIC (Instrument Cluster) and have a dealer program it to the tractor's configuration.

Parts you might need

(4)
  • Instrument Cluster (EIC / Main Control Module)

    RE245291

Fits 5M series such as 5065M, 5075M, 5085M, 5095M, 5105M. Requires dealer programming/calibration upon installation to sync with the Engine ECU.

  • Instrument Cluster (EIC / Main Control Module)

    SJ13498

Fits specific 5075M FT4 configurations. Requires dealer programming/calibration upon installation to sync with the Engine ECU.

  • Fuses

Standard Automotive Blade Fuses (e.g., 10A/15A ATO/ATC for Fuse F24/F9 depending on the specific machine's fuse block diagram).

  • CAN BUS Wiring Harness

Application-specific main wiring harness; consult dealer catalog with VIN/PIN.
