Check the cause
Power cycle and clear codes by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes, reconnecting, and attempting to clear stored codes.
Inspect fuses F9, F23, and F24, which supply power to the CAN bus and steering system.
Inspect the CAN bus wiring harness connecting the ECU to the XSC module for cracked wire shielding, sun damage, or moisture ingress.
Verify harness connections to ensure the XSC control unit is connected to the correct harness and connections are tight.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during repair.
Access the XSC and ECU Harnesses
Locate the CAN bus wiring harness running between the Engine Control Unit and the AutoTrac Steering Control Unit.
Repair or Replace Wiring
If the diagnostic checks revealed cracked shielding, moisture damage, or broken pins in the connectors, repair the damaged wire or replace the affected CAN bus harness section.
Replace Fuses
If fuse F9, F23, or F24 was blown, replace it with a fuse of the exact OEM amperage rating.
Software/Module Replacement
If the wiring is perfectly intact and the fuses are good, the issue lies within the transmitting control software (ECU) or a failed XSC module. Replace the XSC Steering Control Unit or have the software reprogrammed by a certified John Deere dealer.
Reassemble and Calibrate
Reconnect the battery. If the XSC module or steering valves were replaced, a steering valve and wheel rotational angle sensor calibration must be performed using John Deere Service ADVISOR or a compatible diagnostic tool.
