John Deere 2005.12 – PTQ / PTP: Transmission Command Mismatch

The transmission system has malfunctioned because the transmission controller is receiving invalid or mismatched communication data over the CAN bus network from the TIQ (Tractor Implement Qualification) control software. When this code triggers, the system will often disengage the transmission to prevent engine stalls or unintended movement.

   Immediately set the shift/reverser lever to the Park or Neutral position to attempt vehicle recovery

   Turn off the tractor, cycle the key switch, and restart the engine to see if the temporary CAN bus glitch clears

   Verify the tractor's battery and charging system voltage, as low or high supply voltage can cause modules to drop off the CAN bus or send corrupted messages

   Inspect the CAN Bus Harness

   Physically trace the wiring harness connecting the PTQ/PTP transmission controller to the rest of the CAN network (specifically looking at lines running to the TIQ module). Look for chafed wires, pinch points, or rodent damage.

   Check Connectors

   Disconnect the harnesses at the transmission controller. Inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture ingress, or pins that have been pushed back into the connector housing. Clean and reseat the connections.

   Test CAN Network Resistance

   With the tractor powered off, use a multimeter to check the resistance across the CAN High and CAN Low pins. A healthy CAN bus should read approximately 60 ohms.

   Software Verification

   Connect John Deere Service ADVISOR to verify that the software versions on the PTQ/PTP and TIQ modules are compatible and up to date.

   Module Replacement

   If the wiring is intact, the network resistance is correct, and the software is updated, the PTQ controller or the communicating module may have an internal hardware failure requiring replacement.
