John Deere 2020.09 – ACU / ICU / PTP: SFA Message Missing

A communication issue where the reporting control unit is not receiving expected Controller Area Network (CAN) bus messages from the SFA (Suspension Front Axle) control unit.

   Check fuses supplying power to the CAN bus and SFA module (F22, F23, F24, or F30)

   Cycle the key to restart the engine and see if the code clears or returns

   Visually inspect the CAN bus wiring and connectors between the reporting module (ACU/ICU/PTP) and the SFA control unit for corrosion, loose pins, or physical damage

   Locate and Test Fuses

   Access the tractor's fuse panel. Locate fuses F22, F23, F24, and F30 (refer to your specific model's operator manual for the exact fuse block layout). Test them with a multimeter and replace any blown fuses.

   Clear and Retest

   Turn the tractor on. If the code was caused by a blown fuse or a temporary voltage drop, it should clear. If the code returns, proceed to wiring.

   Harness Inspection

   Trace the wiring harness from the SFA (Suspension Front Axle) controller. Disconnect the harness at the SFA module and check for moisture, dirt, or bent pins. Clean with contact cleaner if necessary.

   Continuity Test

   Use a multimeter to check for continuity on the CAN High and CAN Low wires between the SFA module and the reporting module (ACU/ICU/PTP). Repair any breaks or shorts in the wiring harness.

   Module Replacement

   If the fuses are good, the wiring is intact, and the code persists, the SFA Control Unit has likely failed internally and is no longer broadcasting on the CAN network. Replace the SFA controller. Note: OEM manuals state that if the code persists after basic checks, you should have a John Deere dealer repair it, as a new SFA module may require dealer-level software calibration/setup.
