Check the cause

  1. Restart the tractor to verify if the active diagnostic trouble code reappears, as it may be a transient glitch.

  2. Check fuses F30, F24, or F22 (depending on exact tractor model) for a blown fuse cutting power to the SFA module.

  3. Inspect around the batteries and alternator for any visual signs of damage, accumulated debris, or loose ground connections.

  4. Inspect the wiring harness connecting the SFA control module to the main CAN bus network for chafing, corrosion, or disconnected plugs.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and remove the key.

  2. Inspect and Replace Fuses

Locate the fuse panel and test fuses F22, F24, and F30 (refer to your specific model's operator manual for the exact SFA fuse location). Replace any blown fuses with the correct amperage rating.

  3. Harness Testing

If fuses are intact, disconnect the harness at the SFA control module. Use a multimeter to verify that the module is receiving proper switched power and ground.

  4. CAN Bus Continuity

Test the CAN High and CAN Low pins at the SFA connector for continuity back to the CSC/ACU/ICU modules. The CAN bus should read approximately 60 ohms across the High and Low pins with the battery disconnected.

  5. Module Replacement

If the wiring, power, and grounds are all good, the SFA Control Unit itself has likely failed and is no longer broadcasting on the network. Replace the SFA module. Note: A new module will likely require programming/calibration by a John Deere dealer using Service ADVISOR.
