Check the cause

  1. Restart the tractor engine to verify if the active Diagnostic Trouble Code reappears, as it may be a temporary communication glitch

  2. Check specific fuses that power the SFA communication circuit (Fuse F24 or F30 depending on the model)

  3. Visually inspect around the batteries and alternator for any signs of damage, accumulated debris, or loose grounds

  4. Inspect the CAN bus connectors and wiring harness terminators for corrosion or bad connections

Repair steps

  1. Locate fuse panel

Turn off the tractor ignition and locate the main fuse panel.

  2. Inspect and replace fuse

Inspect the designated fuse for your model (Fuse F24 or F30). If the fuse is blown, replace it with a new fuse of the exact same amperage.

  3. Restart vehicle

Restart the vehicle. If the code clears, the issue was a blown fuse or a temporary communication glitch.

  4. Inspect wiring harness

If the code returns immediately, inspect the wiring harness leading to the SFA (Suspended Front Axle) control unit for breaks, burnt wires, or loose CAN bus terminators.

  5. Replace or reprogram SFA Control Unit

If the wiring is intact and the fuse is good, the SFA Control Unit itself may be defective. Have your John Deere dealer repair as soon as possible to replace or reprogram the module.
