John Deere 2023.06 – ICC (Instrument Cluster Control): "ICC Current High" / Dash Module Has Noted An Issue With High Amp Draw Through The Module

Issue description

The Instrument Cluster Control (ICC) module has detected an electrical current draw exceeding the maximum allowable threshold on one of its internal or output circuits. This typically indicates a short-to-ground in the wiring harness connected to the dash, a failed/shorted component powered by the cluster (such as a warning indicator bulb or gauge), or an internal short within the instrument cluster circuit board itself.

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the wiring harnesses leading to the back of the instrument cluster for chafed wires, pinched harnesses behind the dash panel, or melted insulation that could be shorting to the tractor's chassis ground.

  2. Disconnect the ICC connectors and inspect the pins for corrosion, water intrusion, or bridging debris that could cause a short circuit.

  3. Check for any obviously blown bulbs or malfunctioning switches powered by the ICC, as an internally shorted bulb or switch can cause the ICC to register a high current draw.

  4. Using a multimeter and wiring diagrams, test the ICC supply and output circuits for continuity to ground. If the harness tests fine and no external shorts are found, the ICC module itself has an internal fault.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

    Disconnect the negative battery cable before servicing electrical modules to prevent further shorts or voltage spikes.

  2. Access the Dash

    Remove the steering column shrouds and the retaining screws holding the dash bezel/instrument panel in place.

  3. Remove the ICC

    Carefully pull the instrument cluster forward. Disconnect the main electrical harness connectors from the rear of the unit.

  4. Install the New Module

    Plug the electrical connectors into the replacement instrument cluster, ensuring the locking tabs click into place.

  5. Reassembly

    Seat the cluster back into the dash and reinstall the bezel and retaining screws.

  6. Calibration/Clear Codes

    Reconnect the battery. Turn the key to the ON position. You may need a John Deere Service ADVISOR tool to clear the historic 002023.06 code and configure the new cluster to the tractor's CAN bus system, though basic functionality should return immediately.
