Issue description

Check the cause

  1. Restart the tractor to verify if the active diagnostic trouble code reappears, as a reboot can sometimes correct communication messages

  2. Inspect fuses providing power to the affected module, specifically checking fuses F42, F24, F30, or F6 depending on the tractor model

  3. Inspect CAN Bus wiring for loose wires, open circuits, or connectivity problems, especially if the code is logged as a communication error

  4. Verify that the switched and unswitched supply voltage to the affected module (e.g., the Hitch Control Unit) is above 9.0V, as low voltage can cause module boot-up and software configuration issues

Repair steps

  1. Clear and Verify

    Acknowledge the code on the CommandCenter display. Restart the tractor. If the code does not return, the display will return to normal mode and tractor function can continue.

  2. Wiring Repair

    If the code returns and is logged as an ATC/ETC message missing, locate the CAN bus wiring harness connecting the ATC/ETC to the ICU/PDU. Repair any damaged wires, loose pins, or terminating resistors.

  3. Software Configuration

    If the code is logged against the TIQ, HCC, or HCU as an internal fault with the module software configuration, connect the John Deere Service ADVISOR diagnostic tool via the EDL (Electronic Data Link).

  4. Reflash/Calibrate

    Navigate to the affected module in Service ADVISOR. Check the module's stored codes and software payload. Reflash the module with the correct software configuration. If working on the HCC, perform the Hitch Control Unit (HCU/HCC) calibration procedure.

  5. Module Replacement

    If the module refuses to accept the software configuration, fails calibration, or the internal fault code immediately returns, the module has suffered a hard internal failure. Replace the affected control module and program the new unit using Service ADVISOR.
