John Deere 2029.09 – EIC (Engine Interface Control Unit): No CAN Message Received From Source Address 29 / Immobilizer Message Missing
Issue description
The EIC expects a continuous security handshake from the Immobilizer Control Device to allow the engine to run. If the EIC does not receive this message, it will disable the engine.

Check the cause
Verify the correct chipped immobilizer key is being used (standard keys will turn the engine over but fail to start)
Perform the immobilizer reset procedure if a non-chipped or incorrect key was previously inserted (insert valid key, turn to ON, wait 3 seconds before cranking)
Verify the Immobilizer Control Device is receiving proper power and ground
Inspect the CAN bus wiring harness between the Immobilizer Control Device and the EIC for chafed wires, corrosion, or loose pins
Check for multiple 'Missing Message' codes which would indicate the entire CAN bus may be shorted or open
Repair steps
Disconnect Battery
Always disconnect the negative battery terminal before servicing CAN bus components.
Test CAN Resistance
At the Immobilizer Control Device connector, measure the resistance across the CAN High and CAN Low pins. A healthy CAN bus should read approximately 60 ohms. If it reads 120 ohms, there is an open circuit between the module and the rest of the bus.
Repair Wiring
If wiring faults (opens, shorts to ground, or shorts to power) are found, repair the harness and clear the codes.
Replace the Immobilizer Module
If the wiring, power, and ground are all verified as good, the Immobilizer Control Device (or antenna ring) has failed internally and must be replaced.
Reprogramming
Replacing the immobilizer module or ordering new keys will require a John Deere dealer to program the new components to the tractor's EIC using Service ADVISOR software.
