John Deere 2035.09 – ICU, PDU, or HV1: Communication System, HCU / HCC Message Missing
Issue description
The tractor's CAN bus network has stopped receiving expected communication data from the rear Hitch Control Unit (HCU/HCC). This is typically caused by a loss of power to the hitch module, a severed CAN wire, or a failure of the module itself.

Check the cause
Cycle the Key: Restart the tractor to reset the communication messages on the CAN bus.
Check Fuses: Specifically check fuse F30 for a blown power supply fuse.
Inspect Voltage Supply: Visually inspect around the batteries and alternator for any signs of damage, loose cables, or accumulated debris.
Check Wiring Harness: Inspect the CAN bus wiring and connectors going directly into the Hitch Control Unit for corrosion, backed-out pins, or physical damage.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor engine and remove the key.
Fuse Replacement
Locate the fuse panel and pull fuse F30. If it is blown, replace it with a fuse of the exact same amperage rating.
Test
Restart the vehicle. If the code clears and the hitch operates normally, the issue was a temporary overload or glitch.
Harness Repair
If the fuse is intact (or blows immediately upon startup), use a multimeter to check for continuity and shorts to ground on the HCU power, ground, and CAN High/CAN Low wires. Repair any chafed wires in the harness.
Module Replacement
If the wiring harness is intact, the CAN bus has continuity, and the HCU is receiving proper voltage and ground but still not communicating, the Hitch Control Unit (HCU/HCC) has failed internally. Replace the module.
Calibration
If the HCU is replaced, a John Deere dealer or a technician with Service ADVISOR software must program the new module and perform a rear hitch calibration.
Parts you might need
(2)Fuse
Standard automotive blade fuse (Check local fuse block diagram for exact amperage of F30).
Hitch Control Unit (HCU) / Hitch Control Center (HCC)
AL116824Varies heavily by exact tractor model and cab configuration. Requires software flashing and calibration to match the tractor's specific hydraulic options.
