John Deere 2035.09 – TID (Transmission Information Display), ICU (Instrument Control Unit), or HV1 (Hitch Valve Control Unit): CAN BUS Message Fault / Missing Message

Issue description

The control software has detected a data transmission problem where messages sent by the HCC (Hitch Control Center) or HCU (Hitch Control Unit) via the CAN bus are being received intermittently or not at all, pointing to an open circuit, short circuit, or faulty CAN bus terminating resistor.

Check the cause

  1. Cycle the power by restarting the engine to verify if the active Diagnostic Trouble Code reappears

  2. Check fuses F15 and F30 supplying power to the Hitch Control Unit and CAN systems

  3. Inspect CAN bus terminating resistors for bad connections

  4. Check the CAN bus lines between the TID and the HCC for open circuits or short circuits

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

    Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and locate the primary fuse panel.

  2. Fuse Replacement

    Inspect fuses F15 and F30. If blown, replace them and restart the tractor to see if the code clears.

  3. Harness Inspection

    Locate the wiring harness connecting the TID (Direct Drive Gear Shift Module) and the HCC (Hitch Control Center). Disconnect the harness connectors at both modules.

  4. Clean and Secure

    Inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-out terminals. Clean the contacts with electronic cleaner and securely reconnect them.

  5. Test the CAN Bus

    With the battery disconnected, use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the CAN High and CAN Low pins at the diagnostic connector. A healthy CAN bus should read approximately 60 ohms. If it reads 120 ohms, one of the terminating resistors is faulty or there is a break in the wire.

  6. Repair Wiring

    Repair any damaged, chafed, or broken wires found in the CAN bus circuit between the TID and HCC.

  7. Module Replacement

    If the wiring harness and terminating resistors test perfectly, the fault lies internally within either the HCC or the TID module. The faulty module will need to be replaced and reprogrammed by a certified John Deere dealer.
