John Deere 2036.09 – ICU / AIC / PDU / TID: Electronic Communication Error / Incorrect CAN Bus Message
Issue description
The receiving module is not getting the required CAN bus messages from the Front PTO module (PTF), indicating a data transfer problem between the tractor's control software systems.

Check the cause
Restart the vehicle to see if the code is a temporary glitch.
Check Fuse F15 (or equivalent PTF/CAN fuse) which provides power to the relevant communication circuits.
Inspect the CAN bus wiring harness connecting to the Front PTO Control Unit for physical damage, loose connections, or corrosion.
Test the CAN bus lines for open or short circuits using a multimeter or diagnostic tool to ensure continuity and proper insulation.
Verify that the CAN bus terminating resistors are properly installed and reading the correct resistance (typically 60 ohms across the bus when powered down).
Repair steps
Cycle Power
Turn the tractor off, wait a few moments, and restart. If the code clears and does not return, no further action is needed.
Fuse Replacement
If Fuse F15 (or the equivalent PTF/CAN fuse for your specific model) is blown, replace it. If it blows again immediately, you have a short to ground in the harness.
Harness Repair
If diagnostic checks reveal an open or short circuit in the CAN bus wiring leading to the front of the tractor, repair or replace the damaged section of the wiring harness.
Resistor Replacement
If a CAN bus terminating resistor is faulty or missing, plug in a replacement terminator to restore network stability.
Module Replacement
If the wiring, fuses, and resistors are all good, but the PTF is still not broadcasting messages, the Front PTO Control Unit (PTF) itself has failed and must be replaced.
Software Update
Ensure the receiving control software (OIC, AIC, etc.) is up-to-date to rule out software-related communication bugs.
